Charlton’s young professionals proved too much for Fisher, with their superior fitness in the second half easing them to a 6-1 victory, to knock Fisher out of the London Senior Cup. However, for almost an hour the game was a reasonably competitive contest with Fisher responding to Charlton’s two first half goals with a penalty to pull the score back to two one just after half time.
Fisher made a few changes to the starting lineup with Courtney Barrington and Jake Lovell happy to sit the game out on the bench, allowing game time for Jacob Katonia and Halim Bakre. Richesse Mvioki also got a start in place Armani-Jordan Martin who was away on holiday, with Abdoulaye Ly Athie coming in for the injured Charles Yiadom-Konadu.
Fisher made a bright start and inside five minutes hit the crossbar, after Tyron Mbuenimo sent over a free kick that Jacob Katonia flicked on, for Mayvin Vigneswaran’s to loop his header against the bar, with Richesse Mvioki unable to force the ball over the line from the rebound. However, three minutes later Fisher were behind, as Charlton worked the ball out to Bradley Tagoe on the left wing and getting to the byline he sent over a low cross that saw Henry Rylah slide in to convert from inside the six yard box. Fisher tried battle back and a short corner routine set up Kesna Clarke for an overhead attempt at the back post, but he couldn’t keep the ball down and it sailed over the crossbar. Halim Bakre also saw sight of goal after a surging cross field run, but his effort from distance at the end of it lacked any power.
For most of the half Fisher competed well and had some good spells of possession, with the majority of the game played in their attacking half, but five minutes before the break a failure to clear when given the opportunity saw Fisher lose possession and the ball was fed into the box before being laid back into the path of Toby Bower, who shot powerfully past Ogunseri in the Fisher goal. Fisher needed half time to come, as Charlton almost added a third just before the break with a powerful shot flashing past the upright and a late free kick on the edge of the box was clipped just over the bar.
The second half though saw Fisher straight on the attack and Katonia’s through ball for Kesna Clarke saw the centre forward clumsily brought down, before picking himself up to calmly convert the resulting penalty kick and put Fisher very much back in the game. This led to a good spell from Fisher with Jacob Katonia cutting in from the left and curling a good effort just wide of the post. However, any chance of shock result, disappeared on fifty seven minutes when Charlton fashioned a third goal with some impressive build up play in and around the Fisher area before Bower calmly converted from the left hand side of the penalty area. Eight minutes later Charlton wrapped the game up When Harvey Kedwell’s corner saw Ethan Brown rise unchallenged to head the ball home.
As Fisher visibly tired, Charlton started to move the ball around in impressive fashion with energetic running off the ball ensuring there was always a spare man and by the time Fisher closed the ball it had been moved. More good build up play on seventy five minutes slipped in lively forward Bradley Tagoe, who rounded Ogunseri before tucking the ball into the empty net for Charlton’s fifth, and five minutes from time he wrapped the scoring up with his second, firing in low from fifteen yards out, after more good approach play.
Fisher continued to look to get back on the score sheet themselves and substitute Teddy Jones always look threatening and as the game moved into added time he sent in a blistering drive just past the post, after turning his marker and running powerfully towards goal, before the referee ended the night with the final whistle.
