Fisher returned to winning ways and reclaimed third spot in the league table, with a commanding 4-1 victory against Glebe. Fisher were boosted by the return of Ed Sata to the back line at left back, allowing skipper, Jack Gibbons, to revert to right back. There was also start for Halim Bakre on the right wing as manager Ajay Ashanike switched to a 442 formation.
A firm bobbly surface made life difficult for both sides in the early exchanges and the ball spent little time on the floor, with both sides pushing it over the top, hoping to set in a forward behind the defensive lines. With Fisher playing down the slope they were guilty of overhitting their final ball and for much of the first half hour it looked as if a fourth successive blank in front of goal on the road may be in store. Jake Lovell fired a shot well wide of the upright from a well worked corner in their only real sight of goal and bar gathering a few though balls Isaac Ogunseri was a mere spectator in the Fisher goal in a largely forgettable opening half hour.
Finally, Fisher started to find some fluency and master the pitch, allowing them to get the ball down and use wider areas as a point of attack. Halim Bakre’s pace on the right was starting to cause Glebe some problems and ten minutes before the break he scampered clear from Armani-Jordan Martin’s sweeping cross field pass, nudging the ball into the box beating the outrushing keeper to it and slipped a low pass inside for Kesna Clarke to slide in a push the ball home, after getting in front of his challenging marker. Having opened the scoring Fisher finished the half strongly with Bakre sending over two further dangerous crosses and Courtney Barrington on the left almost jinking into a shooting position before being crowded out.
Having gone into the break a goal to the good Fisher knew they had yet to go through the gears, but they quickly ramped up the pressure in a far more impressive second half. Just three minutes after the restart they doubled their advantage as Clarke and Armani-Jordan Martin combined well to feed Jake Lovell in a central position. He drove forward with the ball and from fully twenty yards out crashed in a shot, which flew past the outstretched arms of the Glebe keeper and into the far corner for a stunning goal. With their tails up, Fisher pushed forward and four minutes later added third. Having won a corner on the right it was not properly cleared and Courtney Barrington picked up the ball on the left touchline, He beat the covering defender on the inside with ease and raced into the box before pulling the ball across for Ange Djadja to tuck the ball away at the second attempt after his first effort was blocked off the line.
Glebe rallied well and quickly pulled a goal back when a cross from right allowed John Jackson to sweep home from ten yards out. Fisher then had to repel a period of strong Glebe pressure as the hosts tried to find a way back into the game with Isaac Ogunseri forced into two fine one handed saves out to his left to keep out two well hit efforts. However, with Donald Macaulay and Ange Djadja in commanding form as a centre back pairing Fisher largely kept Glebe and their prolific striker Jamie Philpott at distance and the hard work and eager running of Jake Lovell kept Fisher on the front foot.
Any worries of a home comeback were extinguished five minutes from time, when smart work from Armani-Jordan Martin after a neat one two with substitute Omotunmise Akanni saw him cut in along the byline and his low cross was bundled home from close range by Courtney Barrington to restore the three goal cushion. Armani-Jordan Martin almost made it five when his curling shot thumped the base of the post as Fisher saw the remaining minutes out with ease allowing the introduction of youngster Tylan Balli, a graduate of the shirt sponsors, Millwall Community Trust’s post 16 education programme, for his debut as a late substitute. Fisher now face league leaders VCD at the weekend, before a tough trip to in-form FA Vase semi-finalists Whitstable Town as the race for the play off spots hots up.
