AFC Croydon 3-1 Fisher
Scefl Premier – Match abandoned after an hour.

New ground number 80 for me and this was game number two of the day. A tidy little ground with a lovely clubhouse and welcoming people. But it’s in the middle of nowhere. One of my mates sat navs took him into the cemetery next door!

This game until it was abandoned had everything. And was a great advert for Scefl football.

Fisher fielding a makeshift team with Luke With and Alli Abdullahi at centre half found themselves chasing the game for large parts.

Croydon took the lead on seven minutes with a smart corner routine that was headed home at the far post.

AFC 1-0 Fisher

As the Fish attempt to get back in the game efforts from Lockwood and Morris fail to trouble former Fisher custodian Nic Taylor.

Handball!!!

AFC give away a spot kick and a lifeline back into the game. Skipper Lockwood steps up strikes it low to Taylor’s left…..Taylor makes a great save and celebrates with his team mates.

Straight to the other end and Tommy Taylor makes a quality save tipping one round the post.

Danny Childs finds some room in the middle of the park and plays in Deshon Carty who flashes his cross past Taylor and Chambers slams his effort into the empty net. 1-1

Next up came a very strange red card for young Malik Morris. Yes he was on the line when the ball hit his shoulder. He didn’t motion towards the ball the ball struck him.

Linesman flagged ref sendsMorris off Fisher down to ten men.

Tommy Taylor guesses right but despite getting a hand on the ball he picks the ball out of the net.

AFC 2-1 Fisher

A few minutes later AFC should have extended their lead when they missed an absolute sitter. The type that ends up on highlight reels of bad misses!

AFC add a third goal just before half time 3-1

Fisher two goals behind and down to ten men it’s looking difficult to take anything from today’s game.

Young Deshon Carty has had a good first half though linking up well several times with Oneal Rowe down the right hand side.

Rowe himself having a good running battle with AFC Nahum Green who always seems to have a good game when Fisher play Croydon.

Carty Brought a great save out of Taylor from a rising drive as the ref blew for half time.

Ht 3-1

Kalonda replaces Chambers early in the second half.

58 minutes in and as each team scuffled with each other near the dugouts the game was abandoned.
AJ taking the brave decision to walk his team off after one of his players was racially abused by a Croydon player.

Number one it was incredibly brave to take your team off and stick together as one. Which has made me feel proud of the team/Group/Club.

And number two will the Scefl do anything about this incident? Or will it be swept under the carpet?

I know it’s early doors but what will the outcome be? Will the game be replayed? Will the result stand? Will AFC Croydon receive a fine? Will Fisher receive a fine? For protecting their players.

As you can see this has left a lot more questions than answers for me.

We can’t keep on having this racism in our society let alone at a game of football. As I sat in the clubhouse and the AFC Croydon players came into the bar they obviously looked gutted at what had just happened.

I felt a bit numb if that’s the correct word. I had never been to a game before where racism had stopped the game. Nor would I like a repeat of it.

After a defeat if it’s going to stand I would usually say we dust ourselves down and go again. Or words to that effect.

But in closing I would like to let everyone at Fisher know you have done the correct thing by making a stand against racism.
